1st localized shunting locomotive to go offline on December 16

According to sources from CSR Ziyang Locomotive Co., Ltd. CSR Ziyang on May 28, witnessed by Kazakh President Nazarbayev, CSR Chairman Zhao Xiaogang and Askar Mamin, president of Kazakhstan Railways, concluded a strategic cooperation agreement in Taraz, Zhambyl Province, Kazakhstan. Under the agreement, CSR Ziyang and Kazakhstan Railways will cooperate in the localized assembly of shunting locomotives, and the offline and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the first unit is scheduled for December 16 Independence Day of Kazakhstan.

CSR is a global top rail transit equipment manufacturer, and Kazakhstan Railways is a railway company engaged in developing, operating and maintaining railway transport in Kazakhstan. To give full play to resource advantage and cement strategic cooperation for win-win, the two sides proposed to carry out close cooperation in the field of shunting diesel locomotives, thereby achieving the “win-win” objective of sharing superior resources, enhancing market status and sharpening comprehensive competitiveness.

Under the agreement, CSR Ziyang and Kazakhstan Railways will team up to manufacture shunting diesel locomotives, with the former providing technical and management support and the locomotive repair plant in Kazakhstan conducting localized assembly. The offline and ribbon-cutting ceremony for Kazakhstan’s first localized shunting locomotive is scheduled for December 16 Independence Day of Kazakhstan. The project will create over 100 jobs for Kazakhstan and boost local economic development. Sources said CSR Ziyang has exported 50 shunting diesel locomotives to Kazakhstan, whose outstanding operating performance has gained full recognition from the country.

The two sides will further accelerate the cooperation in rail transit equipment assembly, maintenance and technical services, actively advance and develop relevant projects, cultivate and enhance Kazakhstan’s rail transit equipment matching industry, thus building a major regional rail transit equipment manufacturing and technical service base, said Zhao.
