Railway Rushed to Transport Power Generation Coal   New Type Heavy-loaded Equipments Strut Their Stuff

Transportation of power generation coal has become key element in ensuring people’s productive life and reconstruction after disaster in disaster area of south China. The main artery of outward transport of Shanxi coals, Daqin Railway undertakes extremely heavy transport task. In the recent battle of rush transporting railway power generation coal, new type heavy loaded transport equipments, such as China “harmony type” high power electric locomotives of world advanced level and 80 tons heavy loaded truck, cut the buck and became the main force of large transport volume and high efficiency power generation coal transportation. 

Since February, the daily car driving volume in the railway of Shanxi coals has reached over 210 thousand trains, and the daily coal transport volume in Daqin railway has been over 1 million tons, creating new record in the world’s history of railway heavy transportation.  

China-made new heavy transport equipment is eye-catching. According to the introduction of the concerned people from CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Works, China’s biggest railway electric locomotives manufacturing industry, there are currently 98 “harmony 1 type” high power locomotives and 180 Shaoshan 4G type locomotives in the company running in Daqin Railway. During the spring festival transportation season, the transport volume of power generation coals of “harmony 1 type” locomotives reached 35% of the total. Now, “harmony 1 type” and Shaoshan 4G type locomotives start from Hudong railway locomotive depot of Taiyuan railway bureau everyday, towing the special trains transporting 10 thousand tons of power generation coals to Qinhuangdao at the interval of 15 minutes.  

According to the introduction from experts in the company, “harmony 1 type” locomotives get the reputation of “top giant”, representing the top-grade level of world freight transport heave locomotives. The highest speed of this type locomotive is 120km/h, and the double-unit traction can undertake the transport of 20 thousand tons cargo, being the freight transport` locomotive of the highest speed, largest power and heaviest cargo traction in the domestic country. The traction power equals to the total traction of 4000 sets of large trucks. 

Due to the good opinion of excellent performance of high power locomotive, during the implementation period of contract involving 180 sets of eight-axle high power locomotives in August, 2007, Ministry of Railway and CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Works signed the purchase and sale agreement again involving 1200 sets of six-axle high power locomotives with the total sum of nearly 30 billion Yuan, and they formally signed the purchase and sale contract involving 500 of them. This was also the largest locomotive procurement project in the history of China railway. 

At the same time, for the reason of using 80 tons new heavy freight wagon, the carrying capacity of each coal transport wagon has been remarkably raised. Compared to the past freight wagon, this new type boasts the characteristics of high technology content, large transport volume and fast speed. Currently, there have been over 5000 sets of CSR 80 tons special heavy freight wagons of coal transport serving Daqin Railway.   

Since the year 2004, in accordance with the general requirements of “introducing advanced technology, joining design and production, making China brand” by State Council, China railway equipment manufacturing enterprises represented by CSR have realized railway equipments leap to global advanced level through implementing the strategy of introduction, assimilation and re-innovation only in three years’ time. They have not only manufactured the products of world first-class level, but also set up technology platform of international advanced level, showing strong independent innovation ability. Chinese railway equipped with batches of products of global advanced level will largely enhance the modernization level of Chinese railway. Taking Datong-Qinhuangdao Railway for example, it was the cogent support from new type heavy transport equipments that the railway’s annual transport volume reached 300 million tons in 2007.
