As the AC transmission heavy-duty main line freight diesel locomotive, it can not only meet the requirement of heavy-duty freight with single engine traction 5000t and the maximum speed 90km/h, but also satisfy the demand of fast freight with maximum speed 120km/h. The diesel locomotive is developed as the ideal tractive power equipment for the railway freight heavy-duty and fast speed requirement with big power, high speed and little maintenance. 

By AC/DC/AC electric transmission, the locomotive is equipped with 16V280ZJB diesel engine which has virtues of: big power, high availability of adhesion, big tractive force, wide range of constant power speed and convenient maintenance, etc. Many new techniques and new structures are adopted: importing IGBT AC transmitting traction converter and its control system, AC auxiliary electric transmission system, computerized control system, AC asynchronous traction motor, dry cooling system, diesel engine electric injecting control system, bearing fuel tank structure and resistance brake system with full power self-bearing testing performance, etc.
